Top Priority for CO: Set up Meetings

- Fill out this form to meet with Senator Bennett, who is a co-sponsor of PIPA.
- Call 303-650-7820 to meet with Senator Udall, who has no public position on PIPA yet.
Be polite and professional, and request a meeting on behalf of Colorado for Internet Freedom (the folks in this forum) to discuss the PROTECT IP Act and SOPA. Make it clear that you want to meet with the Senator during the January recess, and that you'll be bringing others from your group. Have your calendar open when you call, so you can pick a time that works for you. When finished, post a report-back.
For example: "Hi, my name is ________, I'm with Colorado for Internet freedom, and I'm calling to request a meeting with Senator _______ during the January recess. The PROTECT IP vote is happening on January 24th, and I wanted the Senator to understand my concerns before the vote happens."
IMPORTANT: If you do get a meeting, post another message. That way others can join you in your meeting. If there's any other specific information we should include in this post, message us and we can add it.

Miscellaneous tips!
Having trouble finding people or getting a meeting? Hook up with local chapters of the ACLU, library association, civil rights coalition, bill of rights defense committee (a handful around the country), tech meet up, linux group, free culture campus group, local Occupy or Tea Party group and get a meeting together.
Is your senator asking for a fax? Use this free service to do it.
Some people are using a doodle calendar to coordinate a time amongst themselves.

We had hoped to get Romanov who is a doer, this one won instead.
He will probably vote against it, but I would not bet my assets on it as a sure thing.
He sways easily.

Advisor for Business Affairs | U.S. Senator Michael F. Bennet for this Friday.
Any US representative or senator from Colorado better realize the impact to our great state (and the rest of our country!) if they allow this proposed legislation to move forward in any form. The recording / entertainment industry tried similar tactics back when the VCR was invented, and again when the MP3 player was invented....they claimed in both instances that they would lose huge revenues to piracy if such technologies were allowed to be produced. Subsequent market data has not shown that to be true at all. To the contrary, the entertainment and recording industry has sold MANY MORE movies and MANY MORE music since the advent of such devices...their revenues have skyrocketed. In fact, the Internet has assisted in effectively promoting millions of songs/movies, etc., and there's no evidence that these bills will better protect against piracy...they will only cause incredible damage to the reliability and capability of the Internet.
Thanks to everyone for pitching in and writing/calling our elected officials, and for joining in on conference calls and town meetings. Blessings in the New Year! -- Jim
I'd like to request the Thursday evening meeting at 6pm at a location that can allow for multiple people. Is there a room in the Denver Public Library that we can use?
I'm happy to carpool Boulder folks down to Denver. I live outside of Broomfield so I can be in Boulder by 4:45 or 5pm. I can drive down 4 people. However, I am also attending a fundraiser that night so folks would need to take a Regional bus back.
If we get this meeting set, and it is large and public, I am friends with multiple event promoters in Denver who are very concerned about this issue. Thank you sincerely, to everyone, who has done such relentless work to build these relationships.
Thanks for organizing the conf call. I'll be there tomorrow, I'm not the best debater, but I'll do my best to express my concern.
