  • And here are some excellent pieces of advice from the forums:
"The aids told us that what would really perk up the Senator's ears more than our list of well thought out criticisms of the bills details/features/etc, was a list of local companies who were willing to call the office and say "This bill will hurt my business". I called the Greater Omaha chamber of commerce this morning and got started asking around for companies that might be willing to do so. If anyone owns, works at, or knows a company that would be willing to get involved, now is the time. Get them to either call the senator's office, or have them put a message on this page that we have permission to pass along their concerns to the senator."

"For phone calls, only call your Senator. If the phone banks are flooded, the front desk kid isn't going to answer area codes that are from out of state. I would encourage everyone to make four phone calls, one to the front desk in DC, one to the state office and then two more to DC. When you make the last two ask to speak to the LA (who handles internet issues) on the first call and leave a voicemail (they won't pick up). Do the same for the LC (they may pick up on the first few calls). Also try to get their full names so you can try to email them as well. Senate emails typically are "First Name_Last Name@senate.gov." the House, for future battles, is ""First Name.Last Name@mail.house.gov.”"

"Former Senate staffer here as well. The members that I worked for insisted that if a constituent walked into the office (DC or district office), they were seen by staff. If you're in DC and can stop by the Hill, walk in and ask to see the LA who handles internet issues. You'll probably get the LC (junior staff) but if either of those individuals is spending a good portion of their day taking meetings (especially during recess when NOTHING is going on) word should go up the chain. At the State office, ask to see the State Director and do the same."
