Massachusetts: Open Office Hours with Senator Brown this week and next! Click here to go.

Top Priority for MA: Go see Sen. Brown!

  • Senator Scott Brown has open office meetings on Tuesday and Thursday, this week and next, all over the state! Please say here if you are going to go or on Facebook! You can help spread the word on Facebook, please!

  • Call 617-565-8519 to request a meeting from Senator John Kerry.

Be polite and professional, and request a meeting on behalf of Massachusetts for Internet Freedom (the folks in this forum) to discuss the PROTECT IP Act and SOPA.  Make it clear that you want to meet with the Senator during the January recess, and that you'll be bringing others from your group.  Have your calendar open when you call, so you can pick a time that works for you.  When finished, post a report-back.

For example: "Hi, my name is ________, I'm with Massachusetts for Internet freedom, and I'm calling to request a meeting with Senator _______ during the January recess.  The PROTECT IP vote is happening on January 23rd, and I wanted the Senator to understand my concerns before the vote happens."

IMPORTANT: If you do get a meeting, post another message. That way others can join you in your meeting.  If there's any other specific information we should include in this post, message us and we can add it.

  • I asked Scott Brown for a meeting.
  • I asked for a meeting with Scott Brown as well.
  • Awesome guys! It wouldn't hurt to follow up in the next day or so with a call to his Boston office. If you hear back make sure to let us know so we can try and get as many people there as possible!
  • just sent one in. pray for the best
  • Please know that your request has been received and is in the process of being reviewed. This review process can take several weeks, so we ask for your patience and ask that you not resubmit your request. You will be contacted once a determination has been made as to whether your request can be accommodated. If we have not contacted you three days prior to your requested meeting or event date, please call us at 617-565-3170 to follow-up.
  • Requested a meeting
  • I was about to ask if you worked in Senator Brown's office!
  • I also requested a meeting - here's hoping someone is listening.
  • I requested a meeting for the 14th of January.  Now I have to prepare a power point.

Got the same message.  Same phone.  Will call tomorrow.

Interactive citizenry is all that's holding the world together in these exceedingly fragile times.

    Why are there so few?

Just showing up at their office can't hurt either.  No crime against a walk-in visit to local government is there?
  • Hi, since a bunch of you allready have contacted Scott, I'll stand with you on any day you can collaborate on.

His Boston address:  2400 JFK Federal Bldg 02203 Phone: 617-565-3170 Fax: 617-723-7325

    http://scottbrown.senate.gov/

google maps says the JFK Federal Bldg is at 15 New Sudbury Street, Boston, MA which is a short walk from the state house. I bet they walk that route daily.

I am in Wrentham, and can meet on the inbound franklin line or anywhere between South Station and Bowdwain/GvtCtr T stops.

Do you all know you are under contract with the federal government as citizens. Do you realize that as a citizen YOU ARE a government employee by having contracted with the state to perform any duties which are compliance with ANY permissions you requested from them. such as a license to drive (all ins and licenses are commercial, you are licensed to carry passengers for hire whether they pay you or not. you are the passenger when you are also the driver), or the pleasure of paying taxes (through application), or the ability to receive free home delivery of mail (as opposed to just generally receiving it at the local office)...

do you people know that as a company employee, you have little right to question corporate policy enforcement? everyone is a company employee slave of the government, both state and federal (as a citizen). if you wish to change it, you have to re negotiate your employment contract.

  • Yeah, what dates work for people here?
  • every single one of you reads and writes, yet i bet none of you understand.

you need to learn how to wake up and comprehend the fact is that slaves have no voice.

and that inorder to aquire your own voice, you need to learn how to not place yourself into that position aswell as remove the presumption that you are a slave. you become under contract, and you must state in fact, pretty much every time that "without prejudice, you (I) protest" (which is according to the law, if you bothered to read it). http://www.malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleXV/Chapter106/Article1/Section1-207

Section 1-207. (1) A party who, with explicit reservation of rights, performs or promises performance or assents to performance in a manner demanded or offered by the other party does not thereby prejudice the rights reserved. Such words as “without prejudice”, “under protest” or the like are sufficient.

    (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to an accord and satisfaction.

inorder to understand what this means you need to learn "manner demanded or offered", and "reservation of right", and also what "accord and satisfaction" means (type of contracted security interest).

you SAY without predjudice at the beginning of every speech (opening your mouth), and if you SIGN your name to ANYTHING (even the drivers license) you add the word DURESS which means 'under protest'.

    http://www.malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleI/Chapter1/Section1

All persons who are citizens of the United States and who are domiciled in this commonwealth are citizens thereof.

by definition "United States" is a corporation, and as a 'citizen' you are an employee, not a beneficiary.

employee's are trustee's which are just slaves without chains. you must remove the presumption of that by claiming beneficiary, otherwise you will be treated as a slave, they just wont tell you that part.

  • you can find me online at facebook.com/DavidA.Johansen

i will be more than happy to toutor you on how to know where you stand.

the local police and court people are hiding from my questions. because they know and are duty bound to not admit the truth, and i push the issue.

I am awake (and not in the jehova's witness sense). you need to awaken before you can seek justice.

  • @Benjamin108 absolutely no crime against walking into one of the local offices and asking to speak with someone about an issue. Just remember to be polite! Local offices do a lot more than just represent the senator and are very busy on a day-to-day basis. If you have something to say that might take longer than 5 minutes, they would probably appreciate a scheduled visit.

It's worth noting that a number of FFTF members reside in MA. If we manage to get a meeting, we will definitely alert other MA residents. It'll be the first Fight for the Future meet-up!
  • Brown maintains weekly office hours in Worcester, Plymouth, and Springfield. What dates and locations work best for folks?

  • I also requested a meeting on January 14 (same as someone above). Hopefully they will grant and we can go all together into this meeting.
  • I'm definitely down to, if someone actually gets an appointment, to be there in support!
  • I c

  • Jan 14 appears to be a Saturday. Is it plausible a senator would agree to a meeting on Saturday?
  • Is it better for me to simply go during office hours
or better to phone and request a meeting?
  • @rms it depends on how much you want to say, but either would be tremendously helpful. The most important thing we can do is to get more face-time with Senators and/or their staff members, and show them just how many people oppose this bill. If you want to make a longer, more complex argument, though, then setting up a meeting would be great.
  • I'd like to get some talking points to discuss with Senator Brown.  My personal thoughts are that SOPA is a bid by Congress to begin regulating and taxing the internet, but that's way too paranoiac for me to be taken as a reasonable constituent.  Can someone point me toward a fact-driven discussion of SOPA/PIPA?

    thanks
  • Has anyone managed to schedule an appointment with either Senator in Boston?  Unfortunately, I can't do either Tuesday or Thursday in any of those towns, but I can do almost any day in Boston.
  • Called Sen. Kerry, spoke with a staffer. She took my name and number if they needed any "further help on this issue", which is just as good as a blowoff.
  • I called and spoke with Senator Kerry's office. I spoke with a young woman who said that Kerry is out of the country and has not decided on the issue. I asked if he would make time to meet with someone from Massachusetts for Internet Freedom and she said he was still considering the issues. I said that I strongly encouraged him to not vote for cloture.

And I posted this in his contact form:
As Director of the Biology Computer Resource Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I try to stay current with trends in emerging technology. The proposed legislation would dramatically undermine the potential for the Internet to spur innovation and support freedom.

I spoke with your office today and was disappointed that you were unwilling to meet with Massachusetts for Internet Freedom to discuss these important issues. Please make time in your schedule to inform yourself of the issues.

Please vote against cloture and do not support this misguided legislation.
  • I'll be attending Senator Brown during his open office hours Jan 19 1 - 3pm. Unfortunately, I work 60 hours a week so I will not have time to put together any serious materials, but hopefully just showing up to politely express my request he do the logical thing will make some impact!
  • @AsterNox - it will! It's honestly one of the best ways to get the attention of Senator Brown!
  • Don't hold your breath expecting much out of John Kerry, you'll have
better luck with Scott Brown. Kerry is a big government liberal and LOVES
anything that involves taking your tax money (but not his) and exacting control
over what people can and can't do.

He's never returned a phone call, letter, email, or anything that I've
ever sent to his office in 15 years. It's all about him and his party. He's an
elitist, globalist and he’s not concerned with your rights. Call me cynical,
    but it’s true.

I’m not saying don’t keep bugging him, but don’t expect an answer
either. He’ll only act once a focus group tells him that it’s in his best
interest to acknowledge you. Thus far that hasn’t happened though. But by all
means Massachusetts PLEASE continue to re-elect him, the self-abuse can be
    quite fun.

  • It looks like I can go on Thursday afternoon in Worcester if someone has arranged a meeting already.
  • I saw on Facebook today-

    Scott Brown
Have you seen my stance on SOPA and PIPA? I’m going to vote no, the Internet is too important to our economy, and the legislation as it stands provides too much room for misinterpretation. http://bit.ly/zvLL06
  • just because we live in MA, does not mean we can't contact other state legislation, as long as it is done politely and considerately. We cannot allow our country to stray further from it's original values than we already have. Before world war 2, we were an independent country, but the great depression forced us to see the world differently, and while the war brought us out of those troubled times, our continued influence by other countries only proves that we are no longer a world power, but a weight on the world while we continue to give money to other countries, but supposedly cannot help those that have fought for our freedoms. Does this still make sense in this day? we must relearn to take care of our own and get ourselves on our feet. Censorship will take away many of our basic rights and in a day when the internet makes the world smaller than ever, it affects our right to: freely assemble, speak freely, be educated about a world censored by one view, and overall control our lives in ways that our forefathers would cringe over. i can only imagine they are rolling over in their graves right now at the state we have placed their country in.
  • Keep it up, everyone! We've had a huge impact over the past 24 hours, and we need to use that momentum to reach those Senators (like Kerry) who aren't responding to their constituents' concerns. Call, email, fax, and (optimally) go to your Senators' local offices and ask for meetings, preferably under the banner of "Massachusetts for Internet Freedom." That'll let the Senators' staffs know that there are a lot of you out there, that you're all working together, and that they therefore cannot possibly hope to ignore you. Stay strong out there - we're making progress!
