  • @milfordspinach - The Senators did a fairly poor job of responding to NJ-residents meeting requests, so some NJ based members of the NYTechMeetup are branching their protest out to Newark. There will be a rally outside / inside Sen. Lautenberg and Mendez's offices on Friday the 20th!

Bump. Given that we've got an event -- can we get a sticky?

Anyone, please help spreading the word:

  • I've posted details of the rally on the NJ Tech Meetup Board... http://www.meetup.com/njtech/messages/boards/
  • I have been in contact with an aide of Senator Menendez about meeting in Washington DC this Friday Jan 20th. He claims that the Senator is "too busy" as expected. His name is Andrew Geibel. He is the aide in charge of fielding calls on SOPA. His office email is andrew_geibel@menendez.senate.gov. His office phone number is (202) 224-4744. Call him to discuss the legislation, voice concerns, or schedule a meeting. They won't budge without applied pressure
  • I also spoke with andrew. He told me Senator M. was busy and won't be able to take a meeting. I told him the people of New Jersey would like to express their concerns and we would drive down to DC even if it was for a 10-15 minute meeting so that we could talk to him. Andrew said it probably wont happen but he'd be happy to hear my concerns. I asked him how my concerns would be effectively communicated to the Senator, and he said he would mention them in his weekly email. I then asked him if he thought a weekly email was an effective way to communicate concerns shared by many New Jersey constituents who think this bill puts our country's free rights at risk, and he just told me this was the best he could do. And I never even got a call back from Senator L. So much for representation! I'll be there at Newark!

If anyone is going to DC to meet with the Senator M. please let me know. Myself and some friends are willing to drive down there.
  • Please let me know as well if anyone has a meeting and is going. My guess is these jokers in DC will be spending the rest of their time until the vote in "closed door meetings" with eachother and the doors locked.
  • Response from Andrew Geibel:

Friday would work for me, I would love to discuss the upcoming legislation. The Senator decided yesterday that changes would need to be made to the bill, so I’m excited to talk to you and hear any suggestions. What time during the day would work best for you?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    Our office is 528 Hart.

  • That's great you got thru to the Senator's office! Do you mean this Friday Jan 20th in DC?  I am unable to go to DC but I will still go to the 1 Gateway Center office this Friday.
  • Hello,

I called Rep. Andrews office today and was told that he is against SOPA, and intends to vote against it, so thats great news.

I intend to fax our senators since I was unable to talk to a human being today on the phone.
  • @HopeZ Thanks for posting on the Tech Meetup board!

@River We're rallying on Friday. You should come, or tell some friends

@smkhy If you got to DC and got an audience with Menendez that would be great. If they are not granting that, consider joining us on Friday.

@radioclashx Do send that fax, but you should totally come to the rally also.

    everyone- share this link!
    Rally against PIPA:
  • @River @smkhy Great job on securing a meeting! Have you settled on / confirmed a time? Also, do you want any additional backup? Please coordinate with each other to decide who's going, and what your main talking points are.
Everyone: please do get out to the rally on Friday! The more people there are, the more press you'll get, and the less the Senators will be able to ignore this issue.
