Arkansas for Internet Freedom

Top Priority for AR: Set up Meetings

There aren't any public events yet, so the most important thing is to get meetings with Senators. Here's what you need to do:

  • Call (501) 372-7153 to meet with Senator Boozman, who is a co-sponsor of PIPA.
  • Call (501) 324-6336 to meet with Senator Pryor, who has no public position on PIPA yet.

Be polite and professional, and request a meeting on behalf of Arkansas for Internet Freedom (the folks in this forum) to discuss the PROTECT IP Act and SOPA.  Make it clear that you want to meet with the Senator during the January recess, and that you'll be bringing others from your group.  Have your calendar open when you call, so you can pick a time that works for you.  When finished, post a report-back.

For example: "Hi, my name is ________, I'm with Arkansas for Internet freedom, and I'm calling to request a meeting with Senator _______ during the January recess.  The PROTECT IP vote is happening on January 24th, and I wanted the Senator to understand my concerns before the vote happens."

IMPORTANT: If you do get a meeting, post another message. That way others can join you in your meeting.  If there's any other specific information we should include in this post, message us and we can add it.

Comments

  • When I called and asked to schedule a meeting with Boozman, I was treated rudely and my request was declined.
Other people should attempt to schedule a meeting and post back on here.
  • @Qizzli good point. we need to pressure these senators to have a meeting with us -- we're their constituents. please report back here with what happens.
  • I contacted several of his offices and I think I was given somewhat of a runaround. I did end up emailing his meeting scheduler with a very respectful message. I also mentioned I was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

If I get an actual meeting, I would like to invite everyone who wishes to attend to a quick pre-meeting to discuss what we would like to present to the Senator. We need to dress nicely and act accordingly.

    More info later.
  • Hi, I have called, but it's after-hours, so I will try again in the morning.  I have also sent letters and emails and got the standard boilerplate responses.  I am willing to make myself available if at all possible.  I really don't understand where and when we would meet with political staff.  I'm currently working/living in Fayetteville, so if this would be a Little Rock or Washington DC trip--it would really be a stretch for me.

I'll post if anything interesting is learned by calling them tomorrow and the succeeding days.
  • Internet activity is difficult to regulate. I dont believe in censorship but I believe the public should be protected from some material on craigslist and the internet.
  • Boozman withdrew his support!
  • @Natalie Thanks for the heads-up ! If anyone has a spare minute, please call/write to thank him!
