Idaho for Internet Freedom

Top Priority for ID: Set up Meetings

There aren't any public events yet, so the most important thing is to get meetings with Senators. Here's what you need to do:

  • Call (208) 334-1776 or fill out this form and fax (208) 334-9044 attn: "Bryan Raybon" to meet with Senator Crapo, who has no public position on PIPA.
  • Fill out this form
or call 208-342-7985 to meet with Senator Risch, a co-sponsor of PIPA.

Be polite and professional, and request a meeting on behalf of Idaho for Internet Freedom (the folks in this forum) to discuss the PROTECT IP Act and SOPA.  Make it clear that you want to meet with the Senator during the January recess, and that you'll be bringing others from your group.  Have your calendar open when you call, so you can pick a time that works for you.  When finished, post a report-back.

For example: "Hi, my name is ________, I'm with idaho for Internet freedom, and I'm calling to request a meeting with Senator _______ during the January recess.  The PROTECT IP vote is happening on January 24th, and I wanted the Senator to understand my concerns before the vote happens."

IMPORTANT: If you do get a meeting, post another message. That way others can join you in your meeting.  If there's any other specific information we should include in this post, message us and we can add it.

  • I will be calling both of our Senator's offices here in Boise to request a meeting here in a few hours when they get in, will reply with what I find out.
  • Great.  Let me know if you're successful and I'll see about getting the time off work to join you.
  • So I have called Senator Crapo's office, left a voicemail. Also emailed him via his web site. and finally figured out how to Fax a meeting request with out a fax machine. If I hear back at all I will Post the details.
  • Also submitted a meeting request for Senator Risch via his web site.
  • Left message about ten minutes ago. Looking forward to everyone follow up here!
  • Hey, I live up in Northern Idaho (Moscow), do you know if there's any way I can meet with Senators Crapo and Risch without having to drive as far as Boise?
  • JKizer, check each of their websites, they have office all over the state, so submit your own meeting request for the nearest one, or call and talk to some one in that office maybe?
  • Crapo definitely deserves attention, as he has no position. So we need to get him on our side, as I imagine it'll be easier.

Risch needs special attention, however, since he is a co-supporter. So meetings with Risch will need people especially well-educated on this matter.
  • @JKizer - @cruwl hit the nail on the head, look at the Senator's websites and find the office nearest to you.

  • If anyone can call to follow up and see where their meeting plans are, that would be great.
  • I am a stay-at-home-mom so saving money is a HUGE accomplishment for us.  I have 6 kids and our income is less than 30,000 per year.  Stop censorship...
  • I would also like to join the meeting and have others in the IT profession who are interested. I'll check back often to see if a meeting has been scheduled. In the mean-time, I would encourage everyone to at least call and leave a message or speak to their admins and voice opposition to the bill. And get all of your friends who oppose it to do the same - especially to Risch's office.
  • I am interested in a meeting as well! Please do post more information when it happens!!!!
  • Yes, please post on here if anyone is able to set up a meeting. I will come down with at least a few other people.
  • I'll contribute as much as possible. Meeting?
  • Let us know;  I would be surprised if we are able to make a meeting though.  I don't think they want to hear from constituents, and I'd like to know  how much money was slipped into their pocket.
  • Keep calling and writing in (and, better yet, going to your local office in-person) to ask for meetings, and express your opposition. Also consider putting together your own walk-in "meetings" if you don't seem to be getting much of a response via the official scheduling channels. We're making a difference, but we can't let up now!
  • I've been calling and arguing with secretaries, I got a long email from Simpson claiming that he isn't touching the thing... Next is Crapo.
  • As a citizen of Idaho I am ashamed that one of my so-called representatives co-sponsored PIPA. You bring disgrace to Idaho Mr. Risch.

All - Please post here when the meetings with Crapo and Risch have been set.

  • @HAR1 Is Simpson one of your Reps, or a staffer for one of your Senators?
  • I contacted both Sen. Crapo and Sen. Risch offices. I was told by a staff member that Sen. Crapo is opposing PIPA.
